Someone on their computer

If you know someone addicted to diagnosing their health problems online, they might be suffering from Cyberchondria.

About a third of us go straight to the internet to look up our symptoms and see what might be wrong.  Problem is…it just gives you more things to worry about, rather than answer questions.

Quick example.  I had a pretty nasty cough for a couple weeks…I thought it would be interesting to see what the internet had to say about it.  Turns out it was diagnosed to be from anything from the common cold to esophageal cancer.

I did the same for the symptom of “toe numbness.” Could be anything from an ingrown toenail to a spinal tumor to a stroke.

Ever hear about having just enough information to be dangerous?  Pretty much describes the internet, doesn’t it!
