Hurricane Preparedness – Are you riding it out?

Sometimes, that’s the best choice. (I know I’m not officially supposed to say that, but it’s true) However, it’s only a good choice if you have thought it through and are prepared.

Are you:

  • Ready to live without power, water, gas, phone, and internet for a long time? Have a plan for how to deal with the loss of each of those for at least a week.

Have you:

  • Practiced going to a designated safe shelter for high winds? Try going there before bad weather hits. Trying to find your way with debris flying about your head is not the best idea. The next best protection is a small, interior, windowless room in a sturdy building on the lowest level that is not likely to flood.

If you:

  • Are in an area that is likely to flood, designate a location on higher ground that you can move to before floodwaters reach you. Have supplies already packed away in that area.

Pre-planning is the key. Hopefully you’ll never have to use the plan or the supplies…but boy will you be thankful if and when you do!

Tomorrow…what kind of supplies do you need to get?
