We’ve known it all along, but now it’s official. The Surgeon General announced that social media is a main contributor to mental health issues in our teens. He said, “It’s not just the harmful content and subversive posts, it’s their excessive use of it.”
He went on to say, “Teens who spent more than three hours a day on social media faced double the risk of experiencing poor mental health outcomes, including symptoms of depression and anxiety.
The Surgeon General wants laws written that require social media companies to share some of the burden of managing teens’ social use, rather than leaving that burden solely to the parents.
Here’s a crazy stat! 95% of American teens say they’re on Social Media and a third of those teens say they scroll “constantly”.
